Design + banter is a small event for designers in London. Run not-for-profit once a month by a couple of dedicated guys, the format consists of three speakers with a Q&A session after each, with each talk lasting between 15 and 30 minutes. I’ve written about it before and it’s been great to see it grow.
The event has been running for 10 months now but I was lucky enough to be there for the first couple of nights, when the big draw was free beer and bowling. Since then it’s evolved into something much bigger and more professional, from maybe thirty people in a sweaty basement to 150 in a super-hip venue next to Silicon Roundabout, recently nominated for Best Grassroots Event at the Net Awards.
The quality of speakers is incredibly high, particularly when you consider that they are all practicing designers not people who make a living from the events circuit. It’s important to get out of the bubble of work and listen to people talk passionately about subjects close to their hearts and I’m always left with my brain fizzing with energy. Did I mention it’s free? If you’re a designer working in London you need to be at this event. I certainly will be.
